A native of Israel, the Canaan Dog has played many different roles in its homeland. Originally used for guarding and herding cattle and sheep, the Canaan has also served as a military guard dog, mine detector, messenger and Red Cross aid. With an extremely keen sense of smell and sight, the dog makes an outstanding guard of family and home, capable of detecting intruders from a considerable distance.
Intelligent and highly trainable, Canaan Dogs require little grooming and moderate amounts of exercise. In addition to being natural watchdogs, they make loyal pets and family companions, especially when raised with children and other pets.
